Getting Started
How do I add my vehicle to MechFinderPRO?

Open the app and tap My Garage in the navigation bar, then tap + Add Vehicle. You can enter your vehicle details manually or use the VIN scanner to auto-fill the information.

You'll need: make, model, year, registration plate, fuel type and any other details you want to track. You can also add a cover photo from your camera roll.

How many vehicles can I add?

MECHFINDERPRO supports up to 10 vehicles in your garage. You can set one as your Primary vehicle which appears on the home screen for quick access.

Do I need to create an account?

No account required. All your data is stored locally on your device. There's no login, no password and no data sent to our servers.

Use the Backup & Export feature in Settings to save your data and transfer it to a new device.

How much does MechFinderPRO cost?

MECHFINDERPRO is a one-time purchase of $4.99 on the App Store. No subscriptions, no hidden fees, no in-app purchases. Pay once and own the app forever including all future updates.

Service History
How do I log a service record?

There are three ways to add a service record:

  • Manual: Go to your vehicle → Service History → tap + Add
  • Via Chat: Open Roger or Ruby and say "add a service record" — they'll guide you through it conversationally
  • AI Scan: Use AI Inspect to photograph your service sticker — if it contains enough information, the app will automatically log the service record for you

You can record the service type, date, odometer, workshop, cost, notes and when the next service is due.

Can I edit or delete a service record?

Yes — tap on any service record to expand it. You'll see options to Edit or Delete the entry. You can also edit records via the AI chat by saying "edit my last service".

How do I know when my next service is due?

When you log a service you can set the next service date and/or next service odometer reading. These appear on your home screen and vehicle card as reminders.

You can also ask Roger or Ruby "when is my next service due?" and they'll check your records and give you a clear answer.

AI Mechanic Chat
What can I ask Roger and Ruby?

Roger and Ruby are AI mechanics powered by AI. They have full knowledge of your specific vehicle and its history. You can ask about:

  • Service history, next service due and service costs
  • Battery specifications for your exact model
  • OEM tyre sizes and pressures
  • What OBD fault codes mean and how serious they are
  • Finding the closest mechanic who specialises in your exact make and model
  • Nearest towing services, battery replacement centres and EV charging stations
  • General questions about your make and model
  • Adding or editing service records
What's the difference between Roger and Ruby?

Roger and Ruby have identical knowledge and capabilities — the difference is purely their voice and persona. Roger has a deeper male voice, Ruby has a female voice.

You can switch between them in Settings (tap the cog icon on the home screen).

Can Roger and Ruby speak their replies out loud?

Yes — tap the speaker icon in the chat header to enable audio replies. Roger and Ruby will speak their responses aloud in natural, realistic voices.

You can toggle audio on and off at any time. Your preference is saved between sessions.

Is my chat history saved?

Yes — chat history is saved per vehicle on your device. The last 50 messages are kept so you can pick up where you left off. Tap Clear in the chat header to start a fresh conversation.

Find Specialist, Breakdown & Parking
How does Find Specialist work?

Find Specialist uses your current location to search for mechanics who specialise in your exact make and model within a 5km radius. Results are ranked by relevance — mechanics with your car's make in their name appear first, followed by general mechanics sorted by distance.

You can expand the search to 10km or 25km if no results are found nearby. The same search is available through the AI chat — just ask "find me a mechanic nearby".

What does the Breakdown screen show?

The Breakdown screen gives you instant access to:

  • Towing services — nearest tow trucks within 15km
  • Battery replacement centres — nearest battery shops within 25km
  • Your roadside assist — provider name and phone number (if saved in your vehicle details)
  • Your insurer — insurance company and claims phone number
  • Accident Checklist — a step-by-step guide to follow if you're involved in an accident
What's in the Accident Checklist?

The Accident Checklist walks you through exactly what to do if you're involved in a collision, with tappable steps you can check off as you go:

  • Check for injuries and move to safety
  • Call emergency services if needed — with a direct call button
  • Turn on your hazard lights
  • Exchange details with the other driver
  • Photograph the scene — with a direct camera shortcut
  • Collect witness details
  • Report to police if required
  • Notify your insurer — with a direct call button

It's designed to keep you calm and organised in a stressful moment, so you don't forget an important step.

Does the app require location permissions?

Location permission is only requested when you use features that need it — Find Specialist, Breakdown services, EV Charging, or saving a parking location. You can use all other features without granting location access.

Can I find EV charging stations?

Yes — if your vehicle's fuel type is set to EV, MechFinderPRO can locate the nearest EV charging stations based on your current location, ranked by distance.

You can also ask Roger or Ruby "find me an EV charging station nearby" and they'll search for you right in the chat.

How does the parking locator work?

Tap Save Parking from the home screen to drop a pin at your current location. When you're ready to head back, open it again for directions straight to your car.

You can also set a parking timer reminder — like for paid or timed parking — so MechFinderPRO reminds you how much time you have left before you need to move your car.

OBD-II Scan & AI Inspect
What OBD-II adapter do I need?

You need a compatible Bluetooth (BLE) OBD-II adapter plugged into your vehicle's OBD port (usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side). We recommend:

  • Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ — reliable, budget-friendly, pairs directly over Bluetooth
  • Vgate iCar Pro BLE — compact, broad vehicle support, stable Bluetooth connection

⚠️ WiFi-only adapters (including older Veepeak WiFi and Vgate WiFi models) are no longer supported. When buying, always check the listing specifically says "Bluetooth" or "BLE" — not WiFi.
⚠️ Not all vehicles support OBD-II. Most cars manufactured after 2006 are compatible.
How do I connect to my OBD-II adapter?

Bluetooth OBD-II adapters connect directly through the app — there's no separate network to join, and your phone stays connected to your regular WiFi or mobile data the whole time.

  1. Plug the adapter into your car's OBD-II port
  2. Turn your vehicle's ignition to the "On" position (the engine doesn't need to be running)
  3. Open MechFinderPRO and go to OBD-II Scan
  4. Tap Connect — the app will scan for and pair with your adapter automatically

The first time you connect, iOS will ask for permission to use Bluetooth — tap Allow so MechFinderPRO can find and talk to your adapter.

I used to have a WiFi OBD-II adapter — will it still work?

No — as of the latest update, MechFinderPRO connects to OBD-II adapters over Bluetooth rather than WiFi. WiFi-only adapters are no longer compatible.

We made this change because WiFi adapters create their own local network with no internet access, which meant your phone would temporarily lose its regular connection (and features like the AI mechanic chat) while scanning. Bluetooth adapters connect directly through the app, so your internet connection stays on the whole time.

If you have an older WiFi-only adapter, you'll need a Bluetooth (BLE) adapter going forward — see the recommended options above.

What does AI Inspect do?

AI Inspect uses your iPhone camera and AI to analyse photos of your vehicle. Available inspection types:

  • Tyre Inspector — checks tread depth, sidewall cracks and wear patterns
  • Warning Light — photograph any dashboard warning light for an instant explanation
  • Engine Bay Check — spot leaks, worn belts or damage under the bonnet
  • Service Record Scan — scan a service invoice or sticker to auto-fill your service history
⚠️ AI Inspect is for informational purposes only and does not replace a professional inspection by a qualified mechanic.
My check engine light is on — what should I do?

Connect your OBD-II adapter and use the OBD-II Scan feature to read the fault codes. MECHFINDERPRO will show you what each code means, its severity (High / Medium / Low) and recommended action.

You can also tap Ask AI Mechanic next to any fault code, or ask Roger or Ruby directly — they'll explain what it means in plain language, how serious it is, and whether you need to see a mechanic urgently. They can also find the closest specialist for your car right from the chat.

For High severity codes, we recommend visiting a mechanic as soon as possible.

Data & Privacy
Where is my data stored?

All your vehicle data is stored locally on your device only. We don't collect, store or transmit your personal data or vehicle information to our servers.

The only data sent externally is to third-party APIs when you use specific features — location data to Google Places when finding mechanics, and your questions to AI when chatting with Roger or Ruby.

How do I back up my data?

Tap the cog icon on the home screen to open Settings, then tap Backup and Export. This opens the iOS share sheet so you can save your backup to iCloud Drive, AirDrop it to another device, or email it to yourself.

The backup file contains all your vehicles, service history, photos, OBD scans and preferences.

How do I transfer my data to a new iPhone?

On your old phone: Settings → Backup and Export → save to iCloud Drive.

On your new phone: Install MechFinderPRO → Settings → Restore Backup → select the backup file from iCloud Drive.

All your data will be restored exactly as it was.

What happens if I delete the app?

Deleting the app will remove all your locally stored data. Always create a backup before deleting the app.

If you reinstall the app, you can restore your data from a backup file as long as you saved one beforehand.

Purchase & Billing
Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. You can request a refund within 14 days of purchase through:

  • reportaproblem.apple.com
  • Or through the App Store → your account → Purchase History
Can I use the app on multiple devices?

Yes — once purchased you can install MechFinderPRO on all your iOS devices using the same Apple ID at no additional charge. Use the Backup & Restore feature to sync your data between devices.

Will I be charged again after updating the app?

No — it's a one-time purchase. All future updates are free. You pay $4.99 once and own the app forever.
